Part of the question is if you're looking to get comics on release date or are just looking for another way to access comics in general. That is where using a comic reader app and using CBR/CBZ file types come in handy.

I usually need to see part of the page blown up (similar to COmixology's guided view) so that I can enjoyably read the comic. PDF format can be read just about everywhere, but my experience it is challenging to read comics that way unless you are going to read a single page view at a time. It usually is trial and error before you find an app you prefer. On whatever platform you prefer, search your app store for 'comics reader' and you will probably find several. On my PC I use the 'ComicRack' app to view the comics. I usually download comics and store them on my main computer desktop, running Windows. I read on an Android tablet using the app, CDisplayEx Comic Reader,' which is a solid comics reader. As for me, I only use CBZ (or CBR) format - these are read by comics reader apps that prefer CBR/CBZ as their file type.

You do have to be careful and check that the books are available in your preferred format.
